GET YOUR SIGHT TESTED!

(If you have not done so in the last 2 years)

Whilst this is priority number 1 for the campaign, there are no limits on the ways in which you can spread the word about looking after your eyes.

A few ideas to get you started

  • Tell your friends and colleagues about National Eye Health Week.
  • Talk to your family and friends about their eye health.
  • Organise a quiz to raise awareness, with lots of questions about eyes!
  • Hold a poster competition in a local school or community centre.
  • Hold a lunch with dishes made from food which can help promote healthy eyes. See more information about healthy eating here.
  • Get together with a local optician to hold an awareness raising event.
  • Order some sim-specs for your event and use them to demonstrate the importance of eye health. (http://www.vinesimspecs.com/)

If you are a high street optician

  • Display our National Eye Health Week leaflets and posters.
  • Hold a competition for local children to design a poster promoting eye health.
  • Ask patients coming for a sight test about their family and friends.
  • Offer your services as an expert to event organisers and really spread the word about this vital health area.
  • Create a "My Vision Matters" video booth where customers can record statements about why their vision matters. We'll feature the best videos on our website!

If you are a local or national charity

  • Tell your supporters about National Eye Health Week by including articles in your magazines and websites.
  • Hold an awareness day for staff and volunteers, so they can spread the message – invite an optician along to answer their questions about eye care.
  • Email a 'round robin': start off with "My Vision Matters because..." and email it to a friend, after adding their own reason they email it on to a friend, and so on. The end result is a big list of reasons why eyecare is important. Remember to send your list in!
  • Hold your own event or publicity stunt to promote the week
  • Create a "My Vision Matters" video booth where customers can record statements about why thier vision matters. We'll feature the best videos on our website!

  • Let us know the name of your organisation and what you have planned. We will be producing publicity materials which you will be able to order from this website.
  • Are you staging an activity for National Eye Health Week?

As long as it is in support of the aims of National Eye Health Week, we will send you poster templates so that you can customise them and publicise your event.

We will help promote your event by placing it on the calendar section of the website.

  • Keep visiting the website for up-to-date information, tips and ideas.
